On a modern system, this is absolutely not the right way to implement 3D graphics. All drawing is done by manipulating an array of ARGB pixel values, which is then finally turned into a UIImage and displayed in a UIImageView. Wolfenstein's engine had to draw every pixel to the screen manually using a technique called ray casting. In 1992 there were no 3D graphics cards, and no standard 3D graphics APIs like OpenGL or DirectX. Once you flip the switch, the level will reset. Be careful not to accidentally crush yourself to death!įind the elevator switch to complete the level. There are a couple of secret sliding pushwalls - see if you can find them. You have limited health and ammo, but if you turn right at the start you'll see a submachine gun that should help your chances of survival. Otherwise you'll need to tap repeatedly.Įnemies are placed randomly, so if you're unlucky you may be shot in the back immediately when the game starts. If you have a phone with 3D Touch support you can force-touch to autofire. The entire screen acts as a virtual thumbstick for turning left/right and moving forwards/backwards (there's no strafing support as yet). The game can be played one-handed in either portrait or landscape orientation. If you feel like improving it yourself, please open a PR.

I may improve it in future, or I may not. I wrote it as a learning exercise and am releasing it for educational purposes.
WOLFENSTEIN 3D SWITCH CODE
This code is not particularly polished or well-structured. It's also not a completely faithful recreation of the original game engine - I've deliberately removed some features and added others that weren't in the original, but it should be close enough for nostalgia purposes.įor copyright reasons, I've redrawn (badly) the Wolfenstein wall textures and sprites, but if you would prefer to use Adrian Carmack's original graphics, a web search for "Wolfenstein sprites" should provide a good starting point. It is not a complete game, just a single-level tech demo. *Exclusive sponsored content by Drift Gaming is included with this object.Swiftenstein is a partial reimplementation of ID Software's 1992 classic FPS Wolfenstein 3D in Swift for iOS. Overall I was very excited with this piece as, so far, its the only one but with 3D printing and the files up for free anybody can download it and have one of their very own. The total time for sanding, priming, painting and weathering was roughly 125 hours. The project itself used 3 kg's of filament (approx 1000m's) and took around 300 hours of printing. The receiver piston linkage also can be cycled. The side panel of the front chamber is also removable to show the inner parts and the central beam focusing barrel rotates to show the inner barrel chamber. The model itself has several moving parts, the front charging rail can be lifted into the charging position like in game and the front handle can be swiveled 90 degrees to give a different grip layout. I have also included a standard 3 view orthographic drawing for anybody wanting to create theres from scratch. As this is a bit of a beast, I have create several isometric and exploded isometric views and layout drawings to show the build and how everything fits together due to its complexity but I've made the build as easy as possible.

To ensure it was as close to the in-game version as possible I ended up manually recreating the warning and safety stickers on Inkscape, a free vector drawing portable app, which I then printed, lacquered and applied to the finished prop. The right hand side was particularly difficult as there is only one real occasion in the game where you see it so it meant taking the best images I could at the time to recreate it. It was created from reference images of the weapon taken from in game at certain stages that allowed you to see both sides of the weapon and additional concept art I was able to find as I went along. Its comes in 69 individual parts that fit together using dowels to create final weapon. Here is the Laserkraftwerk Laser cutter/laser cannon from the game Wolfenstein.
